Birth flowers are traditional flowers linked to each month of the year, in much the same way as birthstones. Each month has one or more flowers associated with it, often rooted in history, symbolism and long-standing tradition rather than modern growing seasons.

Many people are surprised to learn that birth flowers don’t always match when a flower naturally blooms!

That’s because the concept comes from older traditions, particularly the Victorian “language of flowers”, where blooms were assigned meanings and associations that were widely shared through books, almanacs and etiquette guides.

Over time, these associations became familiar and passed down, which is why we still refer to them today.
